Introduction

On this page you will find regular updates on what is happening at Marlw Riders, and you will be able to comment or add information. As well as our traditional weekly ride reports, we will have separate posts about upcoming events and planned rides for the coming weekend.
The biggest innovation will be the weekly ‘What’s happening’ posts. This will tell you what is planned for Saturday, and also give you the chance to say what are you plans for any Sunday rides.

You can check back here regularly, or subscribe so that you receive updates as emails.

Raid Pyranean

Last week Jonathan led a group of friends including several Marlow Riders over the (in)famous Raid Pyranean.  For those that don’t know, the classic RAID Pyrenean is a 720km bike ride from the Atlantic to the Med to be completed in less than 100 hours.

This is a group photo before they set off.  Look at all the smiling faces.  Strangely there is no group photo from after the finish

Here’s a photo at the top of one of the Cols – the Col d’Aubisque

Weekly Update 2nd October

MEMBERSHIP – IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ !
It has been great to see so many new faces joining us for the various rides on a Saturday morning recently. However, as you know, the terms of our insurance does limit the number of non-members we can have on any particular ride to five AND does limit the number of times a non-member can ride with the club to five rides. To avoid the risk of invalidating our insurance, we are obliged to enforce these rules so can anyone who has ridden with the club five times but not paid their membership, please complete a membership form which can be found on http://www.marlowriders.co.uk or bring it with you next time you plan to ride. Membership fee is £35 plus £5 admin fee. Unfortunately without this; you will not be able to ride with the club. Many thanks for your understanding and support.

We should all be inspired by some of our fellow Riders who took on and achieved the “Raid Pyrenees ” More info can be found on: raid-2012blogspot.com

Weekly Update 17th September 2012

Hi All Riders,

I was due to be away at the weekend (but obviously I wasn’t) so Big Rod W kindly prepared the notes below, before you catch up on all the latest news a couple of things from me.

The last few weeks have seen a great number of riders turning up for the Saturday rides (at least 10 new riders) you will see from Rods note below that our insurance only covers us for 5 non members at a time on a club ride, so I would kindly ask those of you who intend to join could you please download the club application form from the web site and send it in asap. I really want to avoid stopping anyone riding with us because we have to many non members on the day. Also where else can you get membership to a cycling club with use of a bar, car parking, showers and good company! The more I think about it we might put the membership up so join NOW!

If anyone would like to put themselves down to lead on club rides then please let me know as I have to inform our insurers

Catch up soon.
Andy A-S
Marlow Riders Captain 2012-13

Raid Pyrenees: The time is nearly here…….For Jonathan to fulfil a dream…..Those that can remember when we cycled to Paris for dinner, we presented Jonathan with an envelope of “cash” and said go and fulfill that dream. Jonathan and some very fit Riders will take on the iconic Raid Pyrenees ( Atlantic Coast to the Mediterranean) cycle route to be completed in 100 hours. Please Google search  – Raid Pyrenees to find out more about the route and the spectacular scenery. We all wish you well and look forward to hearing all stories. Cycle Safely

Membership: Those new to cycling with Rider’s recently it’s important to pay your membership fees – £35 per annum plus £5 joining fee, because under our insurance with CTC we are only covered for 5 non members per club ride and they can only cycle 5 times before they need to join.

Register of Riders: We will be making a more of a concerted effort to record all those that ride with us for insurance reasons and this will now be the responsibility of the group leaders.
